Jobs and such...
Well, I've done it again, gone back to Chick-fil-A...this time, though, hopefully, for good. I have worked for Chick-fil-A on and off for about 6.5 of the last 11 years. Working under 2 different operators at 4 different stores, I have now moved on to my 3rd operator and 5th store! That's right - I had my orientation at the McCalla FSU this morning - and I actually had to watch the videos! Lol - that's a first! Of all the years I've been with the company, I've trained others and made them watch the videos, but never have I actually had to sit and watch them myself. Until today... Now, I didn't have to watch all of the videos, thank goodness, because there were some, like the Chick-fil-A story that my new operator assumed I should know by now ;)
Here's a little taste of my Chick-fil-A career:
I started at the Chick-fil-A at Oak Mountain when I was 16. I worked there for 2 years and 2 months and the only real reason I quit was because I married my manager (or rather was about to marry him) and just couldn't work together anymore. After a nice little 3ish year span, several jobs later, I decided to come back. At this point, Nathan and I were married and neither had worked for Chick-fil-A for at least 2 years. I went back to Oak Mountain for 5 months and then was transferred to Alabaster in October when it opened to be a manager.
I worked the Colonial Promenade of Alabaster FSU for 1 year and 8 months before I was told by my doctor that I needed to quit my job. You know it's bad when the doctor tells you to quit your job! The reasoning? Depression, exhaustion, dehydration, and beginning stages of hypertension (which I have recently been diagnosed with high cholesterol, blood pressure runs in the family too, so I'm sure it's comin). Yikes! The day that I went to the doctor, I left work in the middle of lunch and came back several hours later. When I returned, both my GM and operator told me that I "looked like death" and should at least go sit down, even asked if I needed someone to take me home. I was going through my divorce and horrible financial strain all alone - my Dad had moved to North Carolina the year before this, so I was alone. Thankfully, at the time, I was dating Perry and because he loved me so very much and wanted to marry me, a way he chose to show me was to take on multiple jobs working ungodly hours each week so that I could quit my job, stay at home and rest for a while, while he tried to pick up my bills! Oh, how thankful, loved, and truly blessed I am!!!! Without him, I would probably have ended up in the hospital and without the help of my Mom and Perry's grandparents, financially I would have been up the creek as well... big HUGE heartfelt I LOVE YOU and THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH to all of them ;)
Anywho, back on track - after a little over a month of pure sleep and recooping, I slowly made my way back in to the workforce. Not back to Chick-fil-A this time, at least not for about 3-4 months ;) This time, when I went back, I chose to go the route of a different operator and thus I went to work for the Chick-fil-A at the Riverchase Galleria. I was hired here as a manager-in-training (mainly because I'd been out of Chick-fil-A for a while and because I was going to a new operator who did things just differently enough that I needed a little extra training) and worked for 5 months before being transferred to the Hoover Commons store. I was transferred there because a manager was not needed at the mall but was needed at Hoover, especially after a transfer in General Manager's had occurred. I was at Hoover 1 year and 5 months. The only reason for quitting this time was that we moved to Auburn.
When we moved, I thought, this is it! No more chicken! I'm gonna find me a "good" job! We were in Auburn for 9 months - and I had 2 jobs while down there, too, neither with Chick-fil-A. That is a whole other long story in itself - if you're interested, just ask, I may talk your ear off, but yeah ;) And now, here we are, back in Birmingham for about a year and a half - I worked part-time for the Galleria during the Christmas holidays last year and decided to do the same this year. While there, I spoke with some friends that I worked with at Hoover that had gone down to McCalla...
Perry and I have had some financial struggles lately, of which have caused some horrible fights and arguments. It has been good, for me, though, because I have had the chance to step back, assess the situation, pray really hard and come to the conclusion that Chick-fil-A is where I'm supposed to be! Maybe I haven't found the right store yet, or maybe I was meant to be an operator myself (the idea has been tossed around several times and much deeper recently, but due to the requirement of moving, is not an option as of the near future) - but I know that this is where God wants me to be right now. I am, again, helping the Galleria through the holidays, but as of this morning, I am officially a team member at the Chick-fil-A of McCalla!
So, although my full resume looks bad because I've moved around so much, in a way, it looks good because I have a lot of experience! I have an AAS in Hospitality Management/Food Service Management (I thought that I went to school simply following Nathan through so I would have help, but apparently I'm pretty good at it and others see me as a great manager, so God had other plans than I originally thought!) and am currently back in school, after 7 years, to get a BS in Business Management to stack onto my AAS and hopefully become the best manager I can be and eventually one of the best operators that Chick-fil-A has ever seen! :)
Not to toot my own horn or anything, ya know ;)
So here's where I ask: what have you done to get where you are or what route are you taking to get on the path you believe that God has laid before you? I want responses! :) Love y'all!

Holidays
Is it just me or does anyone else feel the holiday pressure earlier and earlier every year? Why is that? Why is it so important to buy this or that or to give give give this time of year? Isn't the whole purpose of the Christmas season basically the same as Thanksgiving? I mean, to be thankful for everything you have: family, friends, life, salvation, Jesus Christ...etc etc. You don't buy anyone gifts for Thanksgiving, maybe bring over some extra food, but you basically just want to spend time together, as family, right? Well, not to get confused, I LOVE presents and I love giving presents and all, but I feel like there shouldn't be just one time of year for all the "love"! What happens in June or August? There's nothing special then, no holidays...why can't I give a big important gift then, just because? Why does everyone expect something at Christmas time? I am at that stage in life, mainly that financial stage, where it is not totally feasible to buy all of these amazing gifts and whatnot. And truly, all those amazing gifts to me are not really expected anymore, either.
When asked what we want for Christmas this year, Perry and I both responded: money. The universal gift certificate. That way, we can spend it on food, clothes, entertainment, bills, whatever is necessary when that "gift" is received. Gift cards are nice, but they are usually limited to one store. There's nothing wrong with that one store, but you can't really buy groceries from a Best Buy or gas for your car from a Wendy's. Just sayin... Please do not take this as an offense if you've bought us anything "specific" for Christmas already, I'm simply sharing my mind. I have added some "specific" ideas, such as a gift card to Michael's or Wal-Mart, to the list, but these are for specific things. Wal-Mart, obviously, for just about anything including groceries and gas and Michael's because I am trying to start my own business and they seem to have the majority of the stuff I need for my baking.
I do love this time of year because it seems that people are much more caring and generous and loving that normal. Another odd characteristic of this season because it is so blasted cold, and most people hate the cold, you would think that it would put you in a bad mood, but no, it's seems quite the opposite! Now, for those that truly know me, you know that I am happy and cheery and pleasant ALL year...I am for many many reasons...and that would be a WHOLE other blog in itself! (I think I may do that tomorrow...all the reasons I am the way I am...interesting)...
Anywho, just my question to you tonight, as you read this, is to ask yourself what the Christmas season truly means to you?
One very exciting thing this year is that I get to help with a SUPER special occasion! I get to do the cakes for Courtney and Drew's wedding on New Year's Eve!!!!! I know they're excited, but they will never TRULY know how excited I am for being able to help like this!!!!!!!! This will be my first official cake for an event and I plan to take lots of pictures and hope to do many many more!
So, to add a little blurb at the end: if you are in need of catering/cakes for your special event/occasion, call me! I will have a website and business cards and such soon, but for now, you can email me for more info: k.crabtree@ymail.com (strictly business at this email address, please).
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!

Choices
So, there's a lot to say right now, but nothing that I can really say. Wow, I know that didn't make any sense at all ;) Sorry, folks, just gonna have to hang with me for a bit...
Some interesting things have been happening in our lives lately - interesting is about the only word I can accurately describe for any of it, too. Some decisions are being made and choices coming to fruition and to tell you the truth, I don't even know what to think of it all. Some things are ok, some thing's are just meant to be the way they happen and yet others, I have no idea and it almost hurts to think about it. I guess the biggest decision is one that we made about three and half months ago that now we are considering going back on. At least, going back to the beginning and waiting, again.
I'm so torn. Probably doesn't help to watch movies like Dear John (which I just finished and it is WONDERFUL!!!), or other emotionally straining things at such a time, but sometimes, being the female that I am, I just need to cry. It helps relieve a lot of stress, even if there's really nothing to cry about...movies like The Notebook and now Dear John help me clear my head. Yes, I cry, sometimes to the point that I can't stop once the movie's over, but it's refreshing and cleansing and almost has a healing quality. I need that. I need to feel God's presence - His love, compassion, warmth and guiding hand. As much as things hurt, sometimes, it could all end up being for the good, so I can't complain. Or at least I try very hard not to ;) I'm a positive person, I enjoy positive and uplifting people...I haven't had anyone really close to talk to and confide in besides Brittney (my very best friend whom I love dearly). The problem is that we are so far away and sometimes I need a shoulder that's right next door. Wow, I'm being such a girl tonight! :p
Anywho, I'll try not to drag this out too much - I suppose all I'm asking is for a deep hug, a strong prayer and little love and compassion. I know you, if you're reading this, can give me at least one of those things and I thank you and appreciate you so much. Help us pray for the correct and Godly choices to come forth like a bright beacon - pray for our upcoming counseling, whenever that may be - and pray for strength, for us both. Thanks.

Goals for Me
Perry and I had a very heated discussion the other night, one that, unfortunately, we have had before. I say unfortunately not because of the discussion itself, but the fact that it has had to happen 2-3 other times for it to truly be put in words and circumstances that I can follow and understand. I feel like the older I've gotten (albeit I am only 27), the more forgetful and absent-minded I'm becoming. The discussion is about setting personal goals and sticking to them and focusing on me instead of everyone else, including him!
It hurt to hear those words...some definitely more harsh than others, but for him to tell me to basically leave him alone and quit trying to help him and take care of him all the time hurt. Of course, he was right. I have been focused so much on helping him, taking care of him, pampering him, that I have lost focus on myself. I have neglected myself. I have allowed myself to gain so much weight and have very little to no motivation to get the weight off...I simply sit in self-loathing and pity and depression for the weight I've gained. I'm frustrated at my job situation, I've just started back to school and am stressing on perfection in all my classes, and I've lost sight of taking care of ME!
How to correct this issue?? That's what the discussion was all about. Take care of ME! Be selfish! Wow - I've tried so hard for so many years NOT to be so selfish and now it's gotten so far in the other direction that I've been neglecting myself and not being selfish enough! So, we made a deal - for the next month, I am to concentrate and focus solely on me. Beginning a weight loss plan of my own, eating better, sleeping better, studying hard and not worrying about "us" time...if I can do all of these things for myself, he can guarantee the "us" time.
So, friends, family and followers - gonna have to start a log. I need good food, exercise, a regular sleep/study schedule. Any volunteers on a good way to start? Unfortunately, right now, my work and school schedules are a bit off, so finding a good exercise/walking buddy is difficult. However, there are prospects of a better job with normal hours which will help!
I suppose I should set goals first...realistic goals :) The healthier and happier and less-stressed I am, the easier other things in life can happen ;) So, first and foremost: weight loss. I need to loose at least 40 pounds to be back in the "healthy" range for my height and age. What would you suggest is a good benchmark time frame? 10-20 pounds by Christmas? Another 10-20 by, say, Spring Break? Any thoughts, suggestions, helpful hints, even constructive criticism is very welcome!!!!
Pictures: Me now....vs.....Me in 2006 (this is about a 50 pound change in 4 years!!!!) :*(

Hard
Sometimes life can be so difficult. Seems like it can be like that in a good way, too. Right now, I feel that God is testing my every ounce of patience and it hurts. It hurts so much so that I cried myself to sleep last night, or rather this morning as I lay tossing and turning and thinking. Thinking can be a dangerous thing for me - my mind gets away with things that I don't even WANT to think about and then it just turns bad. Luckily, no nightmares out of this thinking episode! I did wake with a start this morning, as I have for the past few mornings, earlier than expected. Funny when you go to bed around 2:30am and then wake up around 8:30am wondering what is going on?! I had an alarm set for 9:45, which also woke me up, but since I was awake an hour prior, was so tired I went back to sleep. Waking up at 11 today gave me roughly 8 hours of sleep - awake and up and functioning, but groggy-feeling nonetheless.
Anywho, back to the original topic - I have wanted a baby for SO long now, I can't even remember when I first thought so hard about it. And now, I keep seeing everyone around me having babies or being pregnant or finding out they're pregnant and a little part of me aches. With each announcement, I ache a little more. First it was Jaime, then Sarah, then Brittney, then Beth found out she was pregnant with baby #2 (they've been married a DAY longer than us...), several from church - one right after the other - then Saharh and now Mariah! She and Marcus have only been married 2 months!! Agh! I couldn't imagine! I mean, as badly as I want a child, I'm SO glad we've had time to spend together and really get to know and love one another!!!!
I'm pretty sure this is God's way of testing my faith and patience, but WOW what a way to do it! Here's all your friends and all their babies and pregnancies and radiant, glowing happiness - take that! Don't get me wrong, I am overjoyed for all of them, just want one of my own SO bad!!! I know that everything is in His more than capable hands, but I am SO eager and SO jealous and SO impatient! :(
God, please, I'm on my face, prostrate before You, begging You, please - give me Your patience, Your love, Your understanding, Your guidance, Your will. Help me grasp the depths of all this...I can not do it alone. It hurts so bad, the tears I can't suppress, the pain I just can't hide. I love You and am so amazingly deep in love with Perry, words just can not describe.
